Our values

Core Values

Be Here To Help

Our members and your teammates are counting on it.
  • Use every opportunity to help our members as an opportunity to make the world a better place
  • When a team member could use some help, whether it’s asked for or not, make it happen
  • Regardless of what you do on the Better Impact team, look everywhere for ways we can improve
  • Listen to member feedback and pay attention to their needs

Be Caring

Everything comes easier when you truly care.
  • Care about every part of your job like it matters to others… because it does
  • Care that our members accomplish what they dream of accomplishing
  • Care about helping make a positive impact in the world… because you do
  • Care about the people around you that support you in too many ways to list
  • Care for yourself

Be part of something bigger

If all we wanted was a paycheck, we could get that anywhere.
  • Visualize the multitude of great things our members do
  • Remember that everything we do gets amplified through our members
  • Leverage our knowledge and skills throughout the community, including with those who don’t subscribe to our software

Be trustworthy

Being someone others can count on helps everyone reach higher.
  • Be honest to yourself and to all others you deal with, even if the news is not good
  • Act with integrity
  • Ensure your actions and decisions are ethical, fair, consistent and for the greater good
  • Communicate openly and transparently
  • Manage expectations accurately
  • Follow through on what you say you’ll do

Be Human

Screw up, celebrate, adapt, grow, connect…it’s all part of being human.
  • Make mistakes and learn from them
  • Celebrate success
  • Adapt to change and look for ways to grow personally and professionally
  • Let your personality shine through at work
  • Recognize that you work with other humans, who also make mistakes, deserve celebration, have insecurities, have great days and bad ones…

Be courageous

It takes us all to new places as individuals, as members and as a company.
  • Challenge the status quo and find new ways to foster growth as a community, a company and individually
  • Take risks
  • Fail sometimes and do not fear it
  • Own your mistakes and don’t hide from them – You and others can learn from them

I grew up in Toronto, and have also lived in the UK, Newfoundland and now Hamilton, Ontario.

I have studied French (linguistics and translation), Business Analysis and Business Administration, with a focus on information systems and sustainability.

I’ve spent half of my career working in service of non-profit organizations.

I have traveled extensively, spent a gap year in Europe, worked as a ski technician in the French Alps and volunteered at an ecological reserve in Costa Rica.

I love exploring public spaces and discovering street art.

Ultimate frisbee, alpine skiing, board games, escape rooms, sci-fi and fantasy lit: these are my idea of a good time.

I have always been interested in how people’s interaction to the world around them affects how they experience it and having just joined the team here at Better Impact I am focusing on how I can best support those that engage with our organisation.

Accredited with a Masters in Voluntary Sector Management, I’ve over a decade of experience designing, developing, and delivering volunteer strategies across local government, The NHS, International NGOs as well as small to medium UK based voluntary organisations.

A few times a week, you’ll find me either running, or road cycling. And if I’m not getting my thrills from those, then I’ll be out in the camper van, hiking around the UK with my partner and our Dalmatian, ‘Bailey’.

My daily mantra – ‘Treat others how you wish to be treated.’

Family first. I’d much rather be out making memories with loved ones than folding laundry – it can wait!

Played competitive soccer including national championships, a soccer scholarship to Western Michigan University and a trip to the World Master Games in Australia.

I’ve enjoyed passing on my love for the game to the many players coached on my son’s soccer teams over the years.

Former Volunteer Coordinator for the 2003 Canadian & World Road Cycling Championships, held in Hamilton, Ontario (used Volunteer Impact to manage 1,000’s of volunteers).

Life-long learning, team building, leadership development, donating (time, money and blood!), health and fitness, travel and taking on new experiences sums me up fairly well.

I love Chicago and want everyone to love it too. I believe it is my responsibility to help visitors experience the best that my city has to offer. Just let me know you’re coming!

Described by some as a geek and a gamer. There isn’t a game I won’t try; however, I do prefer German-styled board games.

Passionate about making the world a better place to live in. I’ve done this through service in the military, volunteering and work in the non-profit sector.

Formerly the Midwest Regional Volunteer Director for The Salvation Army in the USA and responsible for a quarter million volunteers

Studied psychology at the University of Missouri because I am fascinated about the human mind and behavior. This curiosity later developed into a strong passion for people and building lifetime relationships with others.

Fitness and nutrition addict. I enjoy getting up before 4am during the week so I can spend time in the gym, lift weights, and crush my goals! I give a lot of credit to my successes in life by following a consistent workout routine and eating plan.

I love to go on cruises! It is a fantastic way to get out of your bubble, see the world, and meet people you would have never met.

Never give up on your dreams and do not let others determine what you can and cannot do.

I’ve lived in Bolivia, the U.S., Spain and now I call Canada my home. As a result, I’ve spent a lifetime travelling, enjoying different cultures, meeting different people and it has shaped the person I am today.

My passion for marketing, art, music and food stem from the same source: creativity. The thought that someone had an idea and made it into a reality is what makes the world go round.

I’m into movies, reading, yoga, meditation and crocheting, and I’m also an amateur cook and baker.

Originally from cottage country in Ontario, I have slowly made my way to western Canada and now call Abbotsford BC home. I first began working with Better Impact during my seven years at Alberta Health Services in Volunteer Resources (where I started as a volunteer ). I then continued for another two years with Fraser Health in Volunteer Resources and Site Operations.

I am a lifelong volunteer in healthcare, youth sports and community initiatives. Currently I am President of Valley Attack Field Lacrosse and enjoy the challenges inherent in the role.

When not in front of a computer or on the sidelines of a Lacrosse game, I love to bake, am an avid xbox gamer, lego builder and game/card player. I am however banned from Monopoly due to the table flipping incident of ’96. My teen son tolerates my presence most days and I enjoy taking refuge in a nice glass of scotch as needed.

Hey, I’m Mike. My role around these parts is Digital Media Producer. Sounds kinda fancy, huh?

I’m a typical introvert. I recharge being alone, dark caves, that sort of thing. I’ve always enjoyed artsy-type stuff like playing music and graphic design and I gravitate towards creative things.

I spent a very long time trying to write this and wasn’t having any luck, so I decided to let an Artificial Intelligence (AI) program write the rest for me.

Here we go:
‘I have been told I'm intelligent, witty, and a genius. I have exceptional skills and the sun sets and rises with me. I move across the atmosphere with elegance and grace.’

I couldn’t have said it better myself, super accurate.

Spent many years in the not-for-profit world. Both experiences have taught me how little it takes to help others and how much of a difference you can make to someone in need. Walt Disney said “It’s kind of fun to do the impossible” – it sure is!
